Screenwash

Post by Deleted User 732 » Thu Dec 13, 2018 1:49 pm

I always use aftermarket screenwash in concentrated form to suit the seasons. I never ever add washing up liquid to the screen wash. Have a look at this article and have your say please as to what you think. I found it quite interesting and have never had such a problem.

I've just done a quick search on the internet and I can't find any jaguar screen wash. From the owners manual
"Screen wash with frost protection, diluted with clean water, as specified on the bottle"
XE 2.0TD MY16 ULTIMATE BLACK Prestige, Cold Climate Pack, Parking Pack, Pan Roof, Waste of Space WiFi. Extra Wheel in the boot. (And a towbar)

Yes, that's what I searched with the same result. The only maker screenwash I have used is VW and to be fair it is excellent if a tad expensive pro rata with other makes. I assume BMW's has some kind of soap in it which, like Fairy Liquid will cause gooing up in propriety screen washes.

I don't know why BMW are going on about anti-bacterial ?
With the amount of ethylene/glycol etc in most proprietary washes bacteria doesn't have a chance anyway.
I did hear on here someone had a problem with things gunking up in a previous vehicle (not an XE) but not sure if that was with BMW fluid already in the tank.
Any decent proprietary stuff is fine, pre-mixed or mix your own.
I've never had any issues of gunking using non-manufacturer wash.

This is the best screenwash I've ever used. Mix with deionized water and it lasts for ages

I have always used the Halfords stuff, (as PhilB links to) and never had a problem, not just on the XE but on my previous Vauxhalls, Twintop and Insignia.
