Some 'vehicles' are excessively noisy, and could be toned down a bit, but there are many pitfalls by going down this route when other noise generators in the area could give false readings.

Back in 1978 (in my youf), i had a Honda CB750/4 with a noisy piper 4 into1 exhaust (motorcycle by the way), on the day i part exchanged it to a Brand new Honda GL1000 Goldwing, (another motorcycle), that at the time was whisper quiet, i got pulled by the police for a noise check with their engineers. Apparently a local busibody  had complained about my excess noise on the 750, and by the time they pulled me, the day later, i had changed it to the 1000, I explained the situation and the Police said it didn't matter, they had to test my motorcycle, as it was noisy! Funny enough it passed all the tests, :D Even better was the old busibody reported me again for noise, and i had to resubmit to the tests a second time, it passed again.

TBH I’m glad there looking at this noise issue. Don’t get me wrong I’ve had loud Zorts in my younger days but nothing like these a holes of today. I live on a semi quiet lane and some of the cars/motorcycles going past my house anytime from 5am really gets on my nerves. We’ve got a guy at the moment in a cooper S with s really loud pop bang pop. He takes great delight in easing of the throttle to do just that most days. 😡. I pray they catch this a hole.

Loud pipes save lives. Ride a quiet bike and you are a target for every half asleep bellend out there.

Given that noise output would need to be measured at a set distance and under very specific conditions, I reckon there could be difficulty enforcing this. Most modern vehicles emit much more than 70 decibels in normal driving conditions.

I’ve got a headache. It wasn’t that long ago that there were discussions about electrickery vehicles needing to make a noise so that everyone knew they were coming - now they want everything to be quiet! Common sense really has exited the building.

There are so many holes in this proposal it would be virtually unenforceable unless limits are set very high to capture the modified exhaust brigade.
Current limit for new UK vehicles is apparently 74db.
All of ours are EU type approval certified and one part of that is noise testing including a "drive-by" test.
The F-Type members are obviously a bit more concerned than we are as a lot have the switchable exhaust which makes things louder.

Good grief, that VCA web page is awful!

If I'd put stuff that clear and easy to navigate on t'intertubes back when I was "gainfully employed", I'd have had a right kicking for it!

Once I fought my way through, it looks as though the 300AWD only puts out 68 and a bit dB - I thought It didn't sound -hugely- loud when I floor it
