RIP Norman Dewis

Post by BevC » Mon Jun 10, 2019 4:13 pm

Sadly Norman Dewis has died at the age of 98. What an extraordinary and interesting gentleman. His input into the Jaguar documentaries has always been fascinating. He will be missed.

Saw this yesterday elsewhere :(

Fascinating chap to listen to, his description of driving the first E-Type convertible overnight from Birmingham to the Geneva motor show was amazing.

For those who don't know, he was chief test driver and development engineer for Jaguar from 1952 to 1985. He was involved in the development of Jaguars from the XK140 to the XJ40. He raced at Le Mans, he held the land speed record for a production car in an XK120 and was involved in the development of the disc brake.

RIP Norman

Amazing man.
I remember seeing a piece on TV about his crash in the XJ13 prototype racer at very high speed.
He didn't think it was that much of a big deal!
I didn't realise he was also an air gunner on Blenheims during the war which was a very hazardous occupation.
A real "Top bloke".
