Road Tests and Privacy !

Never really thought too much about road tests till I ended up with an Ex Jaguar fleet car. I did a quick google search of the registration plate and it turns out it has starred in a few road tests by some leading auto magazines. I guess it was a manager's car and was lent out for the tests .

On their websites, and presumably the magazine, there are pictures of the car with the registration plate clearly visible. Pictures of the car has since been "borrowed" by some pseudo reviews on Youtube and also by some accessory manufacturers and tuners.

Should I be worried that my registration number and car specs in detail are available for all to see on the web ? Should I or can I change my registration number ?

I think the risk here is that your car gets cloned. I’m not sure how big a risk it actually is, but I would put a personalised registration on it, and that would mean you don’t need to worry.

I’d probably be more concerned that I had a car that had been thrashed in its early life and I think this should have been disclosed by the Jaguar garage when you bought it (presuming you didn’t buy it from somewhere else).

Thanks. I will check about a cheap personal plate maybe just to be sure.

I bought it from a Jaguar dealer. I was only told it was Ex Jaguar fleet. .. a managers car. Not sure they knew it either.

Car cloning is big business and on the rise. However the main cloning is by stealing number plates and affixing to the cloned car. The real owner thinks it's a chilhood prank and just gets new ones. That is the first method. The second method is the scumbags watch for a suitable car and note the number. Then they go to some backstreet garage slip the owner £50 and get new plates. The first anyone knows about it is fines dropping through the innocent drivers door for speeding and parking. DVLA are well aware of the situation as are the police.
Guidance here that is still valid............. https://webarchive.nationalarchives.gov ... G_10020050 & https://www.cheshire.police.uk/advice-a ... -vehicles/ (example of police advice)

This is assuming they have a stolen XE to put the plates on.
Not something I've ever seen on here although I'm sure there have been instances.
Simplest way is to have a look at DVLA Registrations and buy a private plate (I've seen some on there around £250).

When I bought my car I bought a £350 personal plate from DVLA. There was also the actual one I have always wanted on sale at £35000 **M 1

It will be an "O" plate Paragon Fleet Solutions car then. Yes private plate the easiest route to take.
