I didn't realise that people still used landlines to be honest!
Same here, :) We haven’t had one for about 8 years
If your broadband comes into your house via a pair of wires which is the case for the vast majority of UK homes, then you have a landline although of course you may not have a phone connected to it.

Correct and mine only has about 30 yds (not metres) of copper wire from the fibre box. I think I have a great deal with mine for the money.

People can still be struggling with low speed broadband when they could have the much faster "FTC" or fibre to cabinet.
Most roadside cabinets are connected to the exchange using fibre.
Simple to check online how much faster speed you could get if you upgraded.
I was on about 5Mbps with the full copper wire job.
Now on 40Mbps and it's plenty fast enough although my supplier will get it up to 60Mbps for an extra fiver a month.

I estimate mine is about 300 yards from
The pillar and the fibre back to the exchange and I’m now getting 70 Mbps. Although I don’t stream films or the like, I only really notice the extra speed from the previous 35Mbps when downloading onto my Sky box. 35 was absolutely fine for most things. Depends a lot on what you use the internet for and how many kids you have sucking up all the bandwidth available. We have come a long way since party lines😊😊

Our village has just had upgrades, apparently I can now get 300 Mbps instead of the 41 I currently get, although BT want to charge £49.99 per month plus line rental of approx £20 for the privilige.

Did have two X Types, a 2.5L then a 2.2L Auto with the dreaded DPF. No more DPF's for me.

Just a complete waste of money for most people. No point in paying megabucks for speed you will never need

Absolutely, I'm quite happy with the 41 Mbps I get at the moment. In fact I'm thinking of moving to a new provider as BT does seem rather expensive compared to others.

I am not sure what you all do but I did nothing most of the time to get faster speeds. I started at 8 Mps then 12 then 30 then 60 and now 120. That does fluctuate a bit but never goes below 100 or I get those days free. BT have upgraded me several times for free. I have had several new routers supplied and the last upgrade was £5 with a new router and special connection box which they came out and fitted for free. We have been with BT and it's other guises for 46 years and I have never had any problems with them. There was a time when the call centre was in India that it made enquiries awkward because they didn't know what I was talking about but to be fair, it always got sorted.

I wonder whether speed is calculated like light transmission in photography with the inverse square law? That simply is 2 becomes 4 which speeded again becomes 16 etc Or as apertures f2 f4 f8 16 f32

Mines the same, it has gradually increased over the years to 41 Mbps which is the fastest I can get unless I go full fibre.
I do live in a village 10 miles from the nearest town.
Still plenty fast enough for downloads and streaming.
Both daughter's moan about the slow speeds when home though as they are used to much faster speeds.
