Low Battery Warning after Battery Change
Re: Low Battery Warning after Battery Change
Dabroke, I now have a Ctec charger, not clear to me
can I charge/condition, direct to connected battery +/- in boot?

I think it's a lot simpler to just use the charging points under the bonnet. Avoids the need to empty the boot so the floor can be removed to access the battery.

I also purchased the indicator panel Part no. 56-380. This has a pair of fly leads which are connected permanently to the battery +ve terminal and a good ground point. I then mounted the indicator panel on the side inside the boot on the 12v power supply panel. The indicator panel has a 2 pin socket so all I need to do is just plug the CTek charger in.

Re: Low Battery Warning after Battery Change
You could try doing a hard battery reset, this will reset all the modules on the car, disconnect both battery leads and touch them together, this should never be done with a mhev but since yours isint it will be fine

Re: Low Battery Warning after Battery Change
You can charge the battery via the bonnet connections or in the boot but connect the earth to a point off the battery eg to a stud securing something. Expect around 3 hours charging to full from a recently used battery and up to 8 hours for a discharged battery still starting the car.

Re: Low Battery Warning after Battery Change
Not a good idea with modern car electronics. All it will do is flash discharge any capacitors or other components which are still holding a charge and may be connected somewhere to the main 12 volt rails. It may do no harm at all but then again you could fry a sensitive component. The same effect can be achieved by disconnecting the battery positive lead and leaving it off for 20 minutes or so, then any components which store a charge will discharge slowly and safely.

Lol, but it is safe its in the wsm, on pathfinder there is a similar thing but its in the service menu under the bcm, the reason this was added as a diagnostic routine is you cannot do a hard battey reset with a mhev or an ev

If it's in the workshop manual, then I'm sure it's fine for trained engineers who know exactly what they are doing and have access to JLR test gear but I can't agree that it is something to recommend to owners to try on the off chance it might work. It could prove to be a very expensive mistake.

Re: Low Battery Warning after Battery Change
I've been watching with interest both of these discussions.
I'm sure the "advanced" workshop manual posted elsewhere works but for ordinary members the basics learned by members over nearly 6 years with this car should still be used.
The manual says that the battery should be removed for charging but we have learned this isn't necessary and throws up issues that the normal member cannot easily overcome without extra specialist equipment to code the battery afterwards.
We like to keep things simple on here and whilst technical info is welcome let's stick to the tried and trusted methods that we know work and won't cause issues.
The basic rule is charge with a C/Tek or similar using the jump start points under the bonnet (or as has been mentioned using the + on the battery in the boot and a separate earth point thus bypassing the modules) and never try and charge using the battery terminals.
This way is simple and nobody gets confused or runs the risk of compromising the battery monitoring modules.
