Insurance Comedy Quotes

Post by BLZeebub » Thu May 17, 2018 7:29 am

Afternoon All,

As it's looking more than likely i'll be going for an XE as my efforts to test drive a Mazda 6 & Octavia vRS are going nowhere i decided to get some insurance quotes. First i thought i'd try Adrian Flux, who i've been with for a few years for both car and bike. After repeatedly having to explain i didn't actually have the car yet so i cant give them a reg number or the date i purchased it, along with them ignoring my request for a quote with & without my 12 years NCB they came up with the randomly generated number of £857.13, Fully Comp SDP @12000 miles per annum including my NCB! Off to the Meerkat's for a quote then... Put in all the details and up pops the cheapest of £395. Now, as i am self employed i thought i'd have a laugh and see what business use added in would be and to my surprise the lowest quote actually dropped to £380!

As Adrian Flux have also decided to extract the urine with my bike quote's guaranteed value this year and based on the XE quote they have also decided i should finance their Xmas party this year i think they'll be losing both when the time comes.

As much as i hate shopping around for insurance it does make a difference but it would be nice if they didn't try and screw you every renewal. I look forward to their reply when i return with an alternate quote as i made a point of telling them i hadn't got any others yet.

I use the Meerkats and have changed my insurance every year for the last five years. It's no more hasssle than recording your new car details with an existing company. They store all the car details on their site from one year to the next. I hate being punished for being loyal to an insurance company.

Disclaimer -- I have no connection with the Meerkats and other comparison sites are available.

The problem with shopping around is comparing like with like. The cover offered varies, and one must be careful to add the options one requires. We have two cars on normal policies - I just can't work out why the XE insurance is so cheap compared with that of our Group 4 MG3. Yes, it's dearer, but not a lot.

I find it hard to take seriously a comparison site that thinks that Meerkats speak with German accents, and that they go the pictures a lot. Exploding Mercs are a bit unusual, too.

If it's any help it could be worth trying Chris Knott insurance 0800 9172274 ( for UK based owners). They are specialists in modified cars but are quite happy to insure anything. They were the cheapest I could find for my previous Audi S3 and much cheaper for the new Jag XE. The cover is second to none with most things included as standard and they guarantee to beat any like for like quote.
If you interested mention my name when you speak to them ( Brian Rowney )
XE 25D AWD R Sport, Italian racing red, Black Pack, Privacy glass, and a load of other things I've not worked out yet

Insurance is a strange beast. The opposite of what you think quite often lowers your quote, in my experience adding commuting and business use instead of just SDP actually decreased the premium (like you've seen), but also declaring the car as being parked on the road overnight rather than a secure garage or driveway also decreased the quote. :?

They all use different parameters depending on how their software is set up. I was told that the reasoning behind the car parked in the street thing is that Mr Thief doesn't know which house to break into for the keys.
Another good one is how much mileage you declare in a year. The lower it is, the higher the premium as you are not getting enough practise in

Bev, not trying to teach you new tricks, but when it comes to renewal time Saga will negotiate. Have an alternative quote available (maybe a comparison site quote) to back up your rejection of their initial renewal price. I've found them quite pliable.
