Disc and pad replacement guide

Post by Craigdm » Mon Jul 08, 2019 1:19 pm

Apologies if this is posted elsewhere, but I can't seem to find it.

As per the title, I'm looking for a guide so I can assess if this is a job worth attempting myself. Just completed the same job on my 2009 MX5, but that's a much simpler car all round!

Fronts would be more of what you are already familiar with whereas the rears need the electic parking brake engaged in a release mode. Other than that not too difficult.

And how would I get it into release mode? Very strange but I can't even find any videos for the XE disc replacement.

Nothing out of the ordinary with the fronts or the rears really, obviously the pistons need pushing back into the calipers to allow space for the new thicker pads. I used a generic piston rewind tool as it was easy and it fits, others have just pressed them back.

Parking brake - be careful. There's reports of it releasing itself when put into maintenance mode if the car electrics go to sleep after a set time. I just followed the procedure to park with handbrake off - press the handbrake button down and hold it while turning off the ignition.
Then, obviously, avoid 'line of fire' when fingers are in there.
Pete.

Hopefully the attached will explain how to releaase the brake. Do bear in mind Peters observation and look after your digits!
