With the XE coming out of warranty and people starting to use independents it could be good to get feedback and recommendations.
Please post details of any independents you can recommend.
Details of prices and a link to their websites would be good.
Also if they can update the Jaguar online service history which is still important for some although others are happy with paperwork.

There are two in Stoke/Newcastle-U-L area. AWJ and XJK. I have no experience of the first and the second I've used just once, and I'm not impressed with. Should anyone want's more details I'm not prepared to air it on-line here, as it was just the once.

Two that we have used

The first is on the outskirts of Leicester at Glenfield and they fitted my front and back dash cam and did a beautiful job. I believe they have all the right equipment etc. and maintain online service history. When I was there a number of Jags were being looked after, including XK. A courtesy car is available (which I didn't need). They were also the only independent Jaguar specialist prepared to work on the XE's electrical system. There are a couple of others in Leicester who told me they didn't know enough about the XE to fit the dash cams.

The second my husband used for his Land Rover and he would highly recommend, but as we all share Ingenium they are happy to look after Jaguars too. Their online service history was very comprehensive as they recorded the brake fluid change. They also offer courtesy cars (not needed in our case). Located in the county at Husbands Bosworth.

Not sure about pricing for routine servicing for either, but both were more than happy to talk through requirements and give a price. They were also very proud of what they do and the service offered. Both also use Castrol oil.

Just had a partial 4 year 42000 mile service carried out by Jaguar Specialist Andrew Wilson Motors, Dinas Powys, Cardiff who from personal use over a number of years, I would be happy to recommend. I cherry picked what I wanted them to do from the Jaguar Service Schedule which comprised of oil and engine filter change (supplied), check and report on brakes. They also carried out an MOT and changed 2 tyres (supplied). Total cost was £194.00. I have bought a service book which they stamped for the work done. The rest of the items detailed on the schedule, I did myself and all these can easily be done by anyone with a basic knowledge of the workings of a car.

Manufacturers and dealers would have you believe that only the dealer can correctly carry out a service. The real truth is that unless you have any problems with a car, fault lights on etc, which can only be investigated using correct applicable software, with a 4 year old car which you intend to keep, you are wasting lots of money going to a main dealer as opposed to any other competent garage that you trust. The only dubious advantage being that you get the services listed online. If and when I come to sell my car, I will be able to produce a full history backed up with garage stamps and receipts which for me has always had a positive influence on my decisions when buying secondhand cars.

The value of diesels has dropped like a stone anyway. I know others will disagree, but in my view, the amount I will have saved by not using main dealer service will more than compensate for any possible loss of added value this might bring.

Out of interest, I dissected the official service schedule into 4 parts as shown below:

MOT, SERVICE, DRIVER, DRIVER +

MOT items are covered anyway so no need for them to be done twice. 21% of the list.

Service items by garage for those who do not want to open the bonnet or the boot. 49% of the list.

Driver items are what I would consider the user would be totally familiar with anyway. No need to open the bonnet or the boot. 33% of the list.

Driver + items would be for those who like a bit of motor diy. In this case that would be 64% of the list with Service items then dropping to 18%.

.... and most of them you're checking everyday anyway as you drive it!

From Bev's link I can say that the specialist local to me that I did use . . . . . . IS NOT ON THE LIST. I did wonder if it was a lottery!

However the other one is, and will get a try for my next need.

Cheers Bev.

I'm guessing they haven't signed up. They are definitely an independent garage.

The website owners probably make money from getting businesses to pay a subscription to appear on the list. Any business that doesn't appear on the list either hasn't been approached or has enough business by reputation not to have to bother.

I have used Mistermatic https://www.jaguar-swansea.co.uk/ based in Swansea West Industrial Park for many years.
Excellent service and workmanship with a real passion for Jags.
Did me a 25t first service plus front dashcam fitting for less than £200

Would having the service done there affect your warranty though? Mine is not due for another 15 months yet as 1st service is two years. Swansea would be nearer for me than Cardiff, and if I could save some dosh it would be a win/win scenario.

For many years now it has been illegal to make warranties conditional on services being carried out by franchised dealers. Provided recommended service intervals and schedules are adhered to and manufacturer approved parts are used, services can be carried out anywhere (even diy)

I was not aware of that, so this would apply to Jaguar as well. May have to rethink who does the service as I have a trusted local garage that could do it and save me a long trip.

It's called EU block exemption or some such

From memory the warranty states that servicing must be carried out in accordance with the manufacturer's guidelines by a franchised Jaguar retailer or VAT registered garage - that's the only stipulation made.
