My old car was worth jack sh#t so I thought I'd just go third party, they wanted £255 it was only £258 fully comp.
I've seen that before where TPFT is slightly cheaper than Fully Comp. I'm guessing they don't want the business for some reason. SIlly thing is, i'm now paying about £100 more for a nearly new car compared to my 53 plate 195000 mile old banger!

A few years ago I traded an Audi A5 2.0D for a S5 4.2 V8 and the insurance actually went down :o :o

They all use different parameters depending on how their software is set up. I was told that the reasoning behind the car parked in the street thing is that Mr Thief doesn't know which house to break into for the keys.
Another good one is how much mileage you declare in a year. The lower it is, the higher the premium as you are not getting enough practise in
Reminds me when my daughter had her car broken into and she was advised he premium would increase up even though she made no claim because.... wait for it.... reporting the damage in itself made the area a "black spot" for crime, FFS Insureres make it up as they go along.
Needless to say we ditched that insurer and found a far better deal eleswhere. Regretfully I too now regard insurers with contempt in the same way they regard my loyalty with contempt. Thankfully it is easy to use the compare web sites and more often than not that's just the starting point to getting a preferential deal.

I got an online quote from Admiral when I came to renew my Volvo insurance three year ago. Then I added my wife’s car. It was cheaper to insure both cars with them than just mine. I phoned them to confirm this. I still can’t understand why, but we went with them.

I always nominate my wife as additional driver and tell the insurance companies that although licenced (English spelling, dudes!), she doesn't drive anymore; yet they still give a reduced premium because "She could in an emergency" they say.
I asked my wife what she would do if I suffered a heart attack whilst driving, she replied, "Watch you die, I guess"
Sigh....

My wife has a moped and has only done 5000 miles in 9 years. This year her existing company tried to increase her annual insurance from £148 to £995. They claimed that was the best they could find but five minutes on a comparison site and I found one for £180. What is it with these charlatans? If you don't want my business, just say so!

I made a post earlier in this thread about SAGA. I now withdraw the comments.
Last 12 months £375 - Renewal for coming 12 months £505. Another comedy quote? Phoned them and asked if they didn't want my custom why not just say so !! Anyhow they offered to reduce it to £430.
Well what do you know - Comparison websites have done it again. Entered my details and received 50+ quotes cheaper than SAGA's first offer.
Finally ended up with One Call £262.
Now here's the point of my post, After entering my details in the comparison website I didn't close it down but used another tab to interrogate another comparison website. What do you know One Call showed up as £279 !! Opened another tab and checked the first comparison website again - unbelievable it had increased to £279.
So went back to the first tab and it still showed £262, so proceeded and my application was accepted.
Lesson I've learnt: Hold onto what you think is the best quote (even saving the tab as a favourite) and carry on researching quotes. That way you can always retrieve what you think is the best quote and then go forward with an application.
I know that Insurance companies are always reviewing their policies and quotes, but changing a quoted price at 10pm within minutes has got to take the 'biscuit'. :o :!:

My insurance company have done the same for the last 2 years. Renewal quote goes up by £20. I phone up and say no thanks, they drop the price by £50. So cheaper than the previous year. Why don't they do that in the first place.
