Strangled diesels

Post by Domfow » Thu May 17, 2018 1:09 pm

Has anybody else noticed that the MY2019 diesel XEs are considerably slower to 60 mph than previous years

my2016 which mine is and has a 0-60 time of 7.9 for the manual now that has increased by a whole second to 8.9,
The 180 and 240 seem to have gained a couple of 10ths of a second to reach 60 mph.
Move to the latest model and accelerate slower, not a great sales pitch

Parkers are still quoting XE launch year performance times

That's Ingenium Innovation for you !!
Even the petrol version has been upgraded with a dipstick rather than the electronic monitoring system.

They lied about the MY2016. I have the 163 and there is no way in a million years it does it in sub 8 seconds. I saw in a review over 2 years ago that it was recorded at just over 9 by one of the online motor review sites. That sounds about right to me so 8.9 isn't a surprise.

Agreed I would think about 8.2, I use to have the X type's 2.5 V6 and they were a good 7.7.
But since my2016, they've doubled the use of Adblue in the exhaust down to 500 miles a litre from the original 1000 mile a litre and I think there's some more advanced Cat converter going on. i've done 40,000 miles in my XE 163 and also having the 9 litre adblue tank, I've only had to fill it 3 times.
If you want to improve the green credentials strangle the exhaust, which will reduce performance and I think that's happened across the board with the latest MY2019 XE, probably to make it perform better on the WLTP test ;)

When I first looked at the XE back in May 2015 the 180 diesel was 0-60 in 7.3 secs and since then it seems to have got a bit slower twice, not that you would notice that much. I did see at the back end of 2015 the figures alter to 7.8 and now with double dose Adblue 7.9 with the new emissions up from 111 CO to 134 CO, I assume that is to do with the new way of testing the emissions.
180 diesel XE R Sport, with many extras :D
