Links in posts.

Post by PhilB » Thu Jul 12, 2018 3:04 pm

We are now getting links being created with some words and phrases in the body of posts.
An example here with "BMW UK" being in blue which is an Amazon link apparently.
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=6545

As of this morning some of us now have a small blue "Privacy Settings" box in the bottom right hand corner of the screen (Picture in the above linked topic).
If I clear my history then when logging in again I get this screen initially:

Clicking on the Privacy settings box gives this screen:

This only happens on the XE forums.
Neither of the above happen when opening the F-Type, F-Pace forums etc.

Links in posts - been like that for a while but should be minimal and you might not see it on mobile? Not sure.

The privacy settings thing - No idea, Let me have a look into it.
Looks like the advertising company has changed something without telling me.

Thanks
Rob

Is it something to do with GDPR?

Yes, its the same as the big box that popped up a few weeks ago, condensed into a small Privacy Settings window.

This is QuantCast the largest Artificial Intelligence company in the world, they are harvesting this information for advertisers, to allow each one of us to be individually targeted on our interests by the appropriate advertisers. Each website that uses Chrome can have a plugin Target from QuantCast installed, it appears that post GDPR many websites to protect themselves have used this technology to cover themselves, to allow individuals to create 'privacy settings' per site.

Well, as of this morning the little blue box has gone which is nice.
I run Spybot once a month and the amount of tracking cookies and other rubbish that digs up is quite considerable.
At least it's only those and no real nasties!

Indeed the little blue box is gone. I think it has just shown how many advertisers were tracking us though. Maybe having the option to block them was a good thing!

The annoying eBay ad’s are back this morning in posts. Been fine for a couple of weeks.

Are those the ones that appear like posts?
Rob sorted those on another topic : viewtopic.php?f=12&t=6395
Last thing was that if you were logged in they wouldn't be there.
I just checked and it seems to still be the case that they are there if you aren't logged in but gone if you are.
