Congratulations Jaguar

Post by BevC » Wed Apr 17, 2019 3:14 pm

It has just been announced that the I Pace has been awarded World Car of the Year, World Car Design of the Year and World Green Car 2019, the first time ever any car has received all three. Congratulations to the team at Jaguar - way to go.

Yes, they've been tweeting their success all afternoon. It's well deserved too. So congratulations to Jaguar, a British car maker of world class vehicles. Even though the I-PACE is made in Austria, it's been designed and engineered in the UK.

Brilliant indeed, however they can't make enough of the I-Pace, I was in my Jaguar dealer on Monday and they are taking build slot orders for December. If only some of that spare capacity or a line could be opened up at a UK plant to increase production. Remember Austria is in the EU and post the 'B' word if it ever happens, the car may carry import tariffs on its already high price, not if made in the UK.

The decision to make the I-PACE in Austria was taken when all 3 UK plants were operating at capacity. Now that there is spare capacity, they should repatriate production to the UK.

Aston Martin did just that with the Rapide; initially it was produced at the same plant as the I-PACE in Austria, but eventually it was relocated to Gaydon.

I was in my local Jag garage yesterday and had a good look at the iPace in the showroom, it's a lovely looking car really well designed, looks ace and really nice quality in the cabin, but at basic 80K it's a lot of money, they had a Project 8 in there too, I think I would go for that instead!!

Nice to see some positive news about Jaguar, for once - just a shame it doesn't seem to be making a spalsh like the less-good news has...

You'd almost think the media enjoy knocking British companies!

Totally disagree there, I think it’s the best looking one apart from the F-Type. Has the best interior of the lot.
