Panoramic sunroof...rubbish?

Post by Steevee » Fri May 17, 2019 2:16 pm

Hi all. I recently purchased my first XE and am loving it but... the sunroof, bit rubbish?

Super noisy over 52 mph? Dead insects caught in wind deflector invariably then land on my head?

I did search, before I get told off

Ours came with the sunroof which I would not myself have specced.
However I do like the transparency with the roof closed and blind opened and I wonder whether it would be worth manufacturers offering a fixed glass roof option.

I haven’t found the noise level to be excessive and the bugs stay firmly stuck in the net. Maybe we have bigger bugs here... 8-)

I confirm, your bugs are definitely bigger, though I haven't tried the Victoria varieties, I have in QLD, WA, and NSW! ;) ;)

The sliding pan roof is perfect to hear the exhaust with XE S!

I had an XF loaner recently with a solid roof and I found it a bit too dark for my liking

I wanted one in my car and as a demonstrator it was fitted. I must say that I tried it once and prefered it closed. The blind pushed back makes for extra light in my cabin as it is an all black finish. I used the sunroof in my MG Maestro a lot but had a shield that fit the front part of the aperture and that cut down noise and bounced flies over the car. I have still got it if anyone wants one for their MG Maestro.   I have had cars with sunroofs since but never really used them and wouldn't spec one in any new car with aircon.

We have one with the current XE which actually had the be replaced under insurance after it copped a stone hit. My wife has never used it. I've used it a couple of times to let hot air out. It looks ridiculous open.

When speccing the new car i thought to leave off the sunroof but my wife thinks it looks better with it even though she never buses it. I suggested black wrap, but that didn't fly.

I looked at several XE's before I bought mine. A few had the glass roof. I thought it looked ugly when open and the surround looked rather flimsy, so I decide not to go for it.
