New 2.0t R Sport fuel range

Post by Rdkfman » Thu Jun 13, 2019 3:33 pm

Hi picked up my car on Sunday and filled her as soon as I got home. Cost around £50 with 30% petrol still in the tank. Range on the dash to empty was around 300 miles. Put another £45 in on Tuesday night to fill the tank with 44% petrol in the tank. And once again full range was showing as 300 miles. I’m just wondering what other owners are getting and will this improve over time? I’m hoping it will improve as the engine runs in (which I am doing). Also the salesman told me not to use eco mode until around 500 miles so I have followed his advice. Will this improve the MPG and range once I can use it?
Thanks

It will definitely improve over time.
It calculates the distance to empty by averaging out your mpg and as you have only just got the car it hasn't really got much data to work on at the moment.
On my V6 when I fill up it normally says about 380 miles to empty so you should get significantly more eventually.
I'm sure some of the owners of XE's with your engine will stop by and give you an idea of what they are getting.

Hi Phil thanks for the reply. Was just a bit daunting having come from a 1.0 litre 3 cylinder polo. Ha

HI Rdkfman, I picked up my XE 300 in DEcember and it started off with a range of 280, but with each fill up and gentle driving for the first 1000 miles, well most of the time it was gentle, and now depending on what I have been doing it changes from 380-420 after a fill up.

It will definitely improve over time, the car needs some time to learn how you drive it to give an accurate range. I've experienced in brand new cars the fuel consumption is very high in the breaking in phase

In the meantime, here's mine and it should make you feel better

Cheers fellas. Was starting to think I’d have to take out another loan for the petrol!

Hi, I've not my XE yet but I had an Alfa Guilia with a similar engine (2 litre) and performance. Over 5000 miles my average was 27 mpg, I've now got a C class mild hybrid (1.5 litre) and am getting 28 mpg. I'm expecting the same from the XE

I'm getting around 40 MPG easily with up to high 40's if driven quietly. My best is 50 MPG for one run. With my previous X-Type I struggled to get it over 30MPG on any sort of regular basis, down into the low 20s in winter just round about. I'm delighted with the fuel consumption on this! 25% improvements don't come lightly, or unappreciated.
