P2187 and P0507 after service.

Post by Keef » Sun Nov 10, 2019 3:35 pm

I took my XE in for a routing 2 year/10 000 mile service on Friday but noticed on the way home it was idling a bit erratically.
I've driven the car on Saturday and Sunday and it continued with revs at idle occasionally dropping below the normal (about 700 rpm) and also going up to about 1200 rpm.

On the way home today the check engine light came on, using Torque I got this:

Current Fault Log
------------------
P2187: System Too Lean at Idle bank1

Pending Fault Log
------------------
P0507: Idle Control System RPM Higher Than Expected

Anyone else had this after a service?
Phone call to dealer first thing Monday methinks.

Also they told me they's fixed the stop/start which hasn't worked for 11 months, they haven't.
It worked for the first 2 or 3 minutes of my 1 hour journey back home from the dealer and hasn't worked once on the 3 days since.

Having spent 2 hours phoning every number I could find for the dealer and getting no reply on any of the lines I called out Jaguar Assist.

Turns out the dipstick had not been put back after the service,
The technician put his thumb over the dipstick tube and idling immediately returned to normal.

A temporary bodge is now in place and having finally got though to the dealer on the phone I am going back for a new dipstick on Wednesday.

Good that it was nothing serious, but pretty sloppy work by Jaguar.

Very sloppy work. Demand recompence in some way.

Very.
If they start stalling about waiting for parts then tell them to take one off one of the showroom cars.

if you take it back, they will know who done the work on the car, and will probably find your dipstick lying around in the offenders workspace!

Unbelievable, it’s a wonder you haven’t got oil spray all over the engine compartment. You really need to report this to Jaguar CRC

Dipstick and car re-united.

Front of house guy was quite abrupt about receiving me as he was on Friday, he's probably not best suited to the job he has.

However the chap who actually came to talk to me (after a 20 minute wait) was apologetic and professional.

Engine bay was also given a wipe over to get rid of the oil spray.

The auto stop/start kicked in several times on the way home so maybe they did fix that but it wouldn't kick in previously because the engine was unhappy without the dipstick.

AND the oil level checked and top up if required. I hope!
