Dreaded restricted performance

Post by Gixr6 » Tue Feb 11, 2020 1:50 am

Hi Guys, just joined this forum but I've always used it for reference if any issues have come up.

So I have 2016 XE 2.0d Rsport 163. Its down over 100k and its showing restricted performance indicator. So 2 questions

1st - car runs perfectly when started from cold, sounds slightly rough but runs without issue for about 20 mins and as soon as the engine temp gaiage hits the the same spot (near center) the RP kicks in, then the engine sounds rough and revs slightly hang when you roll accelerator on and off around 10mph. If I switch off, RP clears and car runs with restriction albeit, engine still sounds rough and then after about another 20mins, bing RP back on. Will take to independent jag specialist to have it diagnosed but just seeing if other folk could offer info if they had same issue. I know from reading other threads, these engines are plagued with similar issues that fire on RP and rough idle.

2nd - I have a Elm327 bluetooth diagnostic tool (generic code tool) which I used on the wifes car, but I've read, that a Jaguar, it can drain battery after unplugged, as the car keeps the 'connection' open. Just looking for confirmation if anyone else has used the diagnostic tool on theirs without battery drain.

Thanks for any reply to either question👍

The only way to know what’s holding back your engine is to read the code.

I've used an ELM327 on my XE occasionally, and I'm not aware of any problems...

Hope that helps!

Thanks. I have it booked in to an independent Jag garage on friday. Hopefully find out the issue. Thanks for info on the Elm327 will keep it as a back up for any future checks. Cheers.
