Anyone had problems with the car starting? On 4 occassions now after a brief stop no more than an hour the car won't start. No ticking over or anything. I have to keep pressing the start stop button with my foot of the brake pedal to activate the fuel pump without starting the car. That's how it was explained on the first occassions the AA came out. I have a jaguar xe r sport 180 diesel.

There are various threads on this but I have had the problem several times, usually when I have been in a hurry.
I know now that if it won't start - I start again by foot off the brake and press Start to turn the electrics on - then foot on the brake and press start.
On my car it resolves the problem every time, I think the software just gets over excited when I'm in a rush.

Here is a video I made - Was it a bit like this?
I have a "courtesy car" from Marshall Peterborough - After Jaguar assist came they sort if implied it was me when it started first time!

There is a note on topix regarding car not starting if there is a error code. Get your dealer to look at the information on topix

Problem is that on mine at least it doesn't show an error code, it's just as if the screen and starter etc are frozen.
Mine has been into the workshop a couple of times recently and they tell me that there are no software updates available.
Starting is not a problem to me. As I have said I think the software locks up if I try to rush it, so slow down and always make sure the engine really is off and not sleeping, then reset everything by locking the car when leaving.

I had this issue 3 weeks after delivery. After a week in the gargae they discovered it was the voltage to the control panel that was too high. Apparently this was the first car thye had the issue with. Been OK since so not sure why its still happening

"Been OK since so not sure why its still happening".... It's not OK if it's still happening, right? Or am I missing something? :)

Look back over my posts on this. I think a self discipline solves the problem although frankly I don't think as drivers we should be in this position. Always ensure that the car (engine) is completely shut down when you leave, and then lock the car which seems to reset everything.

Today my car did not start . I had to call jag assist. They reset the car with the battery and the car started, I had to go to my dealer to check what the problem is.
My dealer could not find the cause of the problem , they updated the software and put a technical file up for jaguar to have answers for this problem.
I think the car has a lot of software problems. At the moment I don't trust the car.
Next week they have to fix my breaks because they make a lot of noise.

Hi,

I Think i've had the same problem.

Look at the SSM72438 issue on topix (DTC B14C5-11 - Intermittent non start (X760 and X260)).
This engine update has been applied on my XE 20d 180 R-Sport BVA8 BlueFire (MY2016) one month ago.
It seems to be solved for me.

Today my car did not start again for the second time. This car has been to dealer in sept after first fault start and had new updates for this starting problem. At the moment i don't trust the car , would it start or not. Finally i did got the car started by first pressing the start button and then press pedal and start button .

Is your car diesel? A few areas of thought here, are, you first shutting the door after getting in rather than getting in trying to start and leaving the door open as I have seen some do? Secondly if you are getting in and closing the door, do you have your foot firm on the brake with the car in P/N if it's auto or neutral manual, then trying to start. Thirdly, if it's diesel, are you giving the glow plugs time to heat up enough keeping your finger on the start button? Also with the diesel is your Adblue tank full?
Apologies if all those are being done but any one of those may inhibit starting. Lastly is your battery up to charge?

Hello Vespa , I start with door closed and firmly pressing pedal in automatic neutral. Battery is full. Dashbord and infotainment are lightning up but car would not start , i can here clicking. I think it is not a mechanical problem but a software problem. The brain of the car.

Sorry I can't help other than say get it back in to the dealer. Don't be put off though as sometimes another tech in the dealers may get the job and know exactly what to do. Escalate it to JLR customer services and give reg and Vin in the email.

Xe jaguar software slow if u shut down car fast it will not start have to put car in park then handbrake then shutdown
With both XE's I've had, when you select Park the handbrake applies itself automatically.

MY16 models did not apply handbrake automatically, MY17 (March 2016) onwards did
