I have this warning light that's come on saying 'SOS not available' and it seems it is a secondary battery problem and the battery needs replacing
Does anyone know where this 'secondary battery is located ?

It's a dealer jobbie I think.

If the vehicle is travelling in a different country, the Jaguar SOS Emergency Call will still connect, however, the vehicle's location and the vehicle's details may not be automatically sent.

This feature has 2 backup batteries that will maintain full system operation, in the event that the vehicle's battery is disconnected or disabled.
NOTES

The backup batteries will be maintained as part of the vehicle's servicing schedule, as carried out by a Dealer/Authorised Repairer.

If a fault is detected with the Jaguar SOS Emergency Call system, then the SOS Limited message will be displayed in the Message centre. If this occurs, the vehicle can still be driven, but consult a Dealer/Authorised Repairer at the earliest opportunity.
That is from the hand book

I suspect that they are rechargables like AA or AAA, possibly in the roof console near the SOS button.
Not up there, I have had mine down a few times trying to find a way to convert from a "Whitefire" console to a SGB console.

Have a look at this thread posted by Vespa.
Open the link for the XE S (same systems) as it give diagrams of the various systems and components.
Might help finding the Telematics module.

I went through all those pages yesterday to find the back up batteries to no avail. If the telematics wire is lose we still need to find the batteries position just for peace of mind and to avoid a rip off dealer job, for about ÂŁ3 of batteries

I did a forum search using "SOS" and couldn't find very much so it's not a regular problem.
The one I quoted was a lose wire on the unit but I recall another where PaulC commented that the batteries were in/attched to the telematics unit.
If we can positively locate that then it's a start.

Hello!
For cars with incontrol Touch Pro it's behind the rear seat bolster (passenger side) - you need to remove the back seat bench, then the bolster to then remove the TCU (telematics control unit), there's a battery in there which is replaceable - I don't think it's a standard battery though so you might need the official part.

Also, I believe you need the diagnostics kit to reset the DTC and get rid of the error :(

These guides may help you if you want to try it yourself...

If you have the basic infotainment, I don't know where it is in those vehicles :(

Vespa and PaulC,

Thank you for sharing your PDFs with the rest of us :) .

Going through the one attached by Vespa, I feel it's confusing because on page 1 it shows the location of the TCU behind the rear seat bolster (as PaulC says too). Scrolling down to page 3 however, it says that the TCU is located below the steering column, behind the instrument panel trim panel.

I wonder if there are two locations for Ford engined cars and Ingenium engined cars? The graphics only show the rear seat version. Fancy taking the rear seat out and then finding it under the steering column. That would be a waste of time and money. I wonder if my batteries are going as I have been getting messages on my PC that the car has been stolen and the tracker activated. I don't have an active tracker. Perhaps a problem in that area sets off the wrong info.

Maybe the fault in the OP post is related to these items.
SOS System Not Available
This message is driven by four possible scenarios:
The TCU is disconnected or unresponsive
Failed Emergency Call due to no Cellular Network coverage
Failed Emergency Call due to no eCall Number provisioned
Modem Failure

I suppose that 'Modem failure' also includes back up battery failure, which would also trigger the 'SOS System Not Available' message.

Thanks everyone.
The problem started when someone pushed the SOS button in error whilst looking for the interior lights in the dark, it triggered a call to the constabulary and the light on the button started flashing, I did not know what to do and closed the button cover when the light stopped flashing and thought that was the end of it.
The following day the warning came on, so I presumed it must've been the back up batteries needing charging or replacing.

If you go by the book (topix/workshop manual), the battery is supposed to be replaced after an SOS call, so looks like you're going down the right path given your last message. But as I said in my last post, I don't believe the system automatically re-calibrates itself, so you need to get Jaguar to reset it when the battery is replaced to remove the warning - so possibly not something you can do yourself anyway.

As for the TCU location - maybe the location under the steering column is for vehicles with the basic Incontrol system? (as the location I posted is for if you have Incontrol Touch Pro)

Thanks Paul.....the SOS system is something that I don't really need and I have a second free service due in January next year. So I think I will just put up with the annoying warning until then when the battery check should be part of the service

Now I know that you won't believe it but......the warning light has gone !!
This morning when I started the car there was no warning showing, I just hope it's gone for good and I am not imagining it and/or speaking too soon.... please will you all cross your fingers for me, thanks

One battery is rechargeable and the other not. The non rechargeable battery only comes in when the rechargeable is either too cold to operate or not enough charge. It is possible that the rechargeble has now fully recharged with the car being driven and reset the warning. Eventually the pack will need changing and should last 10 years.
