MEDIA, USB FOLDERS

After being quite annoyed at the lack of CD player in the XE, have spent considerable time converting selected CD's to a suitable format and saving to USB. Each CD to a FOLDER.

Now find that the Jaguar Media System has issues with Folders.

Eight folders eventually show up (when searching by folder) - quite a delay. Any more that 8 folders, only the first 4 will appear.

For a vehicle with no CD player, this is VERY annoying.

Songs can be searched for by other options (title, artist, etc) but what if you want a specific album!

Note that a 250GB portable hard drive works well by any selection other than FOLDER.

Have requested advice from Jaguar Australia but don't hold out much hope (after other queries).

Graeme

I don't know if you have the pro or the older system.
What works well for me with the "old" system is to load albums onto a memory stick using Windows Media Player.
No folders etc.
In the car I open up the USB.
Select "browse" then "folders".
I get a single folder with "music".
Tap on that and all the albums come up in alphabetical order by artist.
There was a problem in my system that if you went straight to albums after pressing browse then the tracks were in alphabetical order.
Going in via the music folder brings up the tracks in album order so that's why I do it that way.

Interesting.

I finally got round to copying my music to my new 'nano' USB stick yesterday and took the opportunity to organise it into main & sub-folders. I have the 'old' system and have just been out to the car to check and I can see all 40-odd top-level folders. My problem is, once I've gone down into a folder, there appears to be no way back. Pressing return gets me back to the main player screen. Selecting folders again takes me back to the previous sub-folder, not the top level.

I also looked at the tracks within a folder and they appear to be in FAT order, i.e. the order in which you copy them to the stick/folder (FAT stands for File Allocation Table which is the index on the stick/disk). There are programs which let you sort the files in whatever order you want, I use one called Reorganise, but it can be a tedious process in large folders...

I have my file structure by artist and then album, created by windows media player.
I can see all artists and then albums for an artist.
I have noticed that when it gets to the end of an album it goes back to the start of that album - I expected it to go to the next album, as my others players / cars do.
Anyone else noticed this or am I missing something ?

That's the way it was designed to work. If you request a specific track the system will play that track continuously. In no time at all you'll never want to hear it again ;)

I have ICT Pro and use USB to play my music. I have around 20 GB music all ripped with eddied with Mp3tag software.
System recognize the tags very well however it has some problems to display the proper album cover. sometimes it recognize it sometimes not. still dont know the reason. I assume that the system accepts only covers up to 500x500 aspect ratio ( I used higher resolution if possible).
Does anyone has similar issue?
Other small issue I have is related to Bluetooth. I connect my Android phone to the system through Bluetooth and use Spotify to play new music (since the Streaming services are on the market I havent been buying any nr CD's and mp3's, so all my collection is older that 2 years :)), however the ICT Pro doesnt see the cd covers. Is it normal for the media playing through Bluetooth?

Steve - I select a track and it plays and when complete moves to next track.
At the end of the album, after playing the last track it moves to the first track of that album - all my other players move to the next album.

Just wonders if anyone else has noticed this.

Thanks Kaspa. I was using this software for ripping my CD. It was ok, now Im using iTunes and works even better, plus its free :)
I dont have the any issue displaying CD covers for the albums with only one artist (Official Albums) however I have planty of Albums which I have created by myself . So basicaly I have multiple artist in the album but the Album artist I called "Various Artists" I have addad for each of the song separate Song Cover. e.g If I have Drake in the album I added Drake's cover for only his songs.
I think the system has some issues with displaying multimple covers within the album. In my WMP everything looks good as well as in iTunes.
What I have noticed that if the ICT Pro cant see the cover it looks in internet (I have sim card installed) the artist image and displays it . this is good So at least I dont see the blank cover :)

Anyway, I will go through each album once again and try to converti it with WMP :)

Sorry, yes I understood what you meant and it is designed to work that way, I was just pointing out that whatever entity you select, even a single track, gets repeated rather than move to next. even if you ask for all songs from an artist, when it gets to the end of the list it repeats. It's how it works and it's not just limited to the selection of an album.

Thanks Steve - glad to see that my setup is OK.
Just a pain needing to move to next album - especially a you can't use the steering wheel buttons to move to next album.
I do like the sound from my 'basic' system - no complaints
