Oil & Filter change at ATS Euromaster...... £93.99

My 2015 180D Xe (around 63k on the clock) is very much out of warranty and I was looking to buy oil & a filter along with a oil pump to do the old "in between service" oil / filter change myself.

The car has been dealer serviced up till now but I will likely be using local garage in future. (partly because the nearest JLR dealership is miles away and partly because they are a nightmare to deal with).

Out of interest / boredom I got quotes from a few of the "high street" outfits that everyone loves to hate.

The cheapest of these was ATS Euromaster which came in just £93.99 for oil & filter change using 7 litres of "Mobile Super" (which I've seen in other threads is fine for the my engine).

Given that this is only a couple of quid more than I could do the job myself (excluding the cost of the oil pump) and being a tight fisted, poorly paid NHS Nurse (who is not going to go on strike...) I have to say that I am tempted....

Thoughts on a postcard please. :)

p.s. the other quotes I got varied a fair bit in price & didn't appear to specify the oil used:

Kwik-fit £106.95
National £144.99
Halfords £144.99

From other NHS worker, whose wife is also a NHS nurse and also being a tight fisted, poorly paid, I kindly recommend you to buy a pump and do it yourself. I use SHELL HELIX 0W-30 ULTRA PRO AJ-L what meat specs for my engine( I think I bought 2x5L last time for £38.64 each) and Mann HU 6024 z for £15.94. Jaguar original filter is about £15. You do the math. I change oil and filter every six months at aprox 5000 mls.

Ta muchly Dragos, you make a good point.

I see that another seller on fleabay is selling 5l @ £34 so buying 3 for £102 would be enough for 2 services which does indeed make sound financial sense...

Any advice on which pump to get?

Thanks again.

You very welcome. Myself bought a Sealey what works well but is quite expensive, anyway after one or two uses you recover money, other users here use Pela what is cheaper, I'm sure that members who have that pump can advise better. Always buy multiple of 5L as is cheaper than individual 1L cans.
This are original Service parts:
OIL FILTER JDE37128
AIR FILTER T4A6124
POLLEN FILTER C2S52338
FUEL FILTER T2H34766

Myself I use MANN filters:
MANN AIR FILTER C 26 042
MANN OIL FILTER HU 6024 z
MANN CABIN FILTER CU 1919

If you want a JLR filter ask for discount and it comes in at £12. Personally I use Blueprint filter for oil at about £6 made in the UK and indistiguishable from the JLR version in every way. Without going out in the snow to the garage it is made by a well known maker of filters. Being senile, I cannot remember the name at present.:) As dragos states I also use Shell Helix and a Pela 6 ltr pump via the dip stick tube.

ADL Blueprint are a subsidiary of Febi Bilstein who are amongst the largest manufacturers of genuine products for all the major car companies.
Being in the motor trade myself I have always used Blueprint/Febi or Lemforder parts as they are usually genuine parts parts just re labelled.

Thank you RalphieM. I forgot about looking for the maker Bilstein, (I see on one of mine that there are JLR markings.) as I decided going out on a death defying run in the snow and slush. Funnily enough no stupid driving from others on the roads either. Most left big spaces between them and other cars.

Thanks chaps

I've ordered the oil & a Sealey pump (Doesn't seem to be much in the way of Pela pumps in stock).

I've also ordered oil & filters for the wife's Renault Captur so the pump will get 2 outings in quick order.

I might do the Captur 1st........ just to get the hang of the process ;-)

I've got the PELA pump - the only drawback is that it holds a maximum of 6L of oil, so with the 7L oil capacity of the XE, the extraction has to be done in 2 stages, emptying the PELA between them. I think the Sealey has a larger capacity so is probably a wise buy. As to availability of the PELA, I got mine from a boat chandlers and it initiallly puzzled me that these chandlers had such a wide stock of these pumps. Then it dawned on me that boats have engines in their bilges so you can't drain oil from the sump at the bottom.....

It's surprising how good they are. Warm the engine to hand hot. Switch off and undo the filter. That allows the oil in it to run out to the sump. Start pumping and make sure you have the tube fully inserted. If it is a suction pump rather than electric revac regularly. Once you have the full 6.5 ltrs refit the new filter and add the new oil. If you only get 5 ltrs then the tube is not correctly positioned, assuming you have had a full markers on the dipstick before starting the job. Too hot an oil will damage the plastic parts if you are not careful.

As all the others have said very easy process. I’ve got a Pela pump as Chris mentioned bought from a ship chandler and the same thought process when thinking why from there. Only problem I had was undoing the filter. It should only be hand tight but couldn’t shift mine by hand. I had a filter spanner bought on eBay and used that and after a few attempts it eventually cracked off. I’m using Fuchs oil in mine. Now comes in 5L cardboard boxes with a plastic bag inside and you just pull out the spout. Really easy to use

On the subject of oil, I purchase mine from these guys. Mail ordering in 20L containers is much more cost effective than buying the heavily marketed brands over the counter and they have a wide range of oils and other fluids meeting all the various JLR specifications.

From memory, I use FSX in my Ecoboost petrol XE, and at £60 for 20L it's a pretty cheap solution.

Search for 9L oil extractor on the usual sites and you'll find them for approx £44. They typically come with 3 sizes of hose. Just used mine to change oil in my wife's Fiat and considering it only has a 3.8 sump capacity, there wasn't much left in going by the markings on the side of the container.

Like this one on Amazon,
I cannot personally vouch for it's quality but TBH they are pretty much of a muchness.
The good thing is they are 9ltr capacity, when I bought mine these did not exist.
