Hi,

Been browsing the forum for a few years now I own a 65 plate XF (x260) 2.0L diesel (180ps) this forum has been very helpful as the XE and XF have a lot of bits in common. Anyway yesterday after a 1 hour drive I had "oil level critically low" warning show on the dash. This only came up when i restarted the engine after the drive. Immediately checked the oil and its on the max mark. I let the engine cool for an hour and checked the oil again, showed on the max mark. I started the engine and no message, so thought it was just a glitch. I went for a short drive and on returning, turned the engine off and left it for a few minutes. I then restarted the engine and "Oil level Critically low" showed again but on blipping the throttle the message disappeared. So this morning on a cold start there was no message and I drove to work. once I got to work I cycled the engine off an on and the message returned.

Has anyone else experienced this, its really bugging me as it only when the engine is warm and the oil is max on the dipstick

This has happened to me and then the engine light came on I took it to the garage they told me that the car had a DPF issue and that it has a exhaust gas recirculation problem and it’s too expensive to fix and to trade it in I am devastated it’s still on finance
Any advice please

I agree with Chris. Supposing your car is an early XE, that means it's a 2015, so not that old! Even in an average condition it's still of some value. Who in their right mind would tell you it's too expensive to repair then offer to take it in as a part-ex? Apart from a con man that is. Can you give some details of your car? If you can get your car to a respectable garage they will be able to plug in a diagnostic tool and give you some fault codes. Once you have those codes, you can come back here and do a search or ask the forum again!

If by "trading it in" the garage is offering to buy the XE and sell you another car, I think they are trying it on. If it's "too expensive to fix" why is the garage wanting to buy it? I suspect they intend to fix it (without too much expense) and then sell it on for a profit.
I would get a second opinion from another garage. If you can locate one, it would be best to take it to an independent Jaguar specialist (not a JLR dealership).

I'm in agreement with Chris on this. It's a ruse and the garage is trying it on. Other members have experienced similar issues on diesel XE's, but I don't recall them being "too expensive to fix". If I may add, if you only do short journeys, petrol is more suitable than modern diesel due to DPF issues.

I have answered on another post and it seems we all think the same. Keep well away from that garage as it seems they are trying it on. I just wonder if the problem is another battery issue, where a low battery charge or failing battery will set all sorts of warnings off. Once again if you are anywhere near M6/M62 crossover I am happy to lend my charger to see if that helps.

I am not wasting my time on some people who choose to ignore my request on post #37.
