Petrol spillage, paint and tyre damage?

This morning I had the misfortune that as I removed the petrol pump nozzle, petrol went down the side of my car and onto the wheel.

I will wash the affected area tonight but I wondered just how much damage can be caused and how quickly it can happen.

No damage I would have thought.

I have done the same thing many times and have never had a problem. Most of the petrol evaporates very quickly.

Thanks Bob. I'm assuming should be OK. Just feeling a bit paranoid as I've only had the car two months and funny enough this is only the second time I've filled it up.

Absolutely 100% no damage...petrol evaporates and compared to diesel which is more 'oil based' it does not leave dirty residue like diesel does.

No problems as said before. But I usually wipe the spillage area with some detailer spray, just to keep the wax sealant from being damaged. Mines a diesel too so ends up with a slick down the side if I don't.

Just clean it off asap with something more than just water like one of those detailer sprays or similar cleaning stuff. If you leave the spilled area for some time it could cause damage while being baked in the sun. Probably won't affect the paint but most likely the clear coat top layer.
