Bluefire65 - each time it has been in they have checked and said battery was very slightly down on charge and have fully charged it again. They have tried to come up with all sorts of excuses re short journeys, lights/heaters on etc etc. The
Set time i told them wasn't happy with just having it recharged as it should recharge itself so they "reprogrammed" something and it worked faultlessly for about 4/5 weeks. Sorry but JLR don't seem to know what they are doing!

I was informed that 87% charge is the point when S/S packs up working. There was a Battery management module update which seems you have had done. Although it seems a JLR problem I know several Audi and Mercedes owners who have similar problems and they, like me, do not drive longer distances. I have written many times about a fix but that is also no permanent. The sad thing is that the alternator is controlled by the BMU and does not always give charge to the battery until a certain point is reached. This is to make emissions less. Another trade off for ECO efficiency I am afraid.

A bit off topic but I noticed the other day that when I left the engine running for about 15 mins or so the ignition switched it off. Wondered if this is a safety/economy feature ?

No, but I queried it with dealer and was told it applied to Diesel vehicles only.

RMC, I went through had pretty much same experience up until last service in November, at which time they informed me that they now had a bench test to determine whether Jaguar would authorise replacement. They did test and replaced battery.

My Cat going in on the 8th Jan to have a look at Stop/Start, as it hasn't worked for several weeks now, and battery monitor shows good charge (95% plus)

Mine suddenly started working again yesterday. I had done a 250 round trip the day before. Back to normal this morning though but I did have screen heaters, blowers etc going full whack to clear the ice.

I have 65 plate diesel on loan as my R-Sport was delivered wrong... drove from Bristol to Wakefield today and it stopped on the junction as I came off the M1! Doing 30,000 miles a year a charged battery is not a problem but faulty batteries after just two years should never happen.

Just for the sake of avoiding any misunderstanding, does 'it' refer to the car, or to Stop / Start?

The car, just the once in 160 miles. Drove back today and it didn't activate stop/start once. Into the dealership I think, might be the battery or something simple. Though a new battery after two years is still poor

There are battery management updates and S/S updates. The battery now undergoes a check on the computers at the dealers that takes around 15 mins. A print out is taken and sent to JLR to claim under warranty for the check over. The battery will be automatically replaced if defective. During the check it is disconnected so as not to damage electronics.

Picked up my 66 plate with 10k miles on the clock at the end of September and S/S worked until around mid October. Took it in over Christmas, they recharged the battery and it worked fine. Been back at work since Tuesday and its lasted 3 days and has stopped working. I'll leave it a few days to see if it kicks back in but I'm doubtful. If not it will be going back again.

My daily commute is a 40 mile roundtrip. The early morning trip is uncomplicated with ave speeds of around 45mph on A roads with some stops for traffic lights, the early evening drive back is a little slower due to the volume of traffic would this cause the drain in the battery?

Check what is running eg heated windows etc. That upsets all the S/S.

I can't believe the excuses put forward for s/s not working. Having had several Japanese cars with s/s that operated flawlessly (regardless of ambient temperature, air-con, heated screens, short journeys etc etc) I can only conclude that the system is fundamentaly flawed and was probably only included to satisfy emission regulations, with no real concern that a Jag owner/driver would be too bothered whether it worked or not. Tbh it's a pain in the ass and I'm happy to switch it off rather than put up with the engine cutting out every time I stop for less than five minutes (and I still average over 50mpg)

I have to agree. It really should have been tested more thoroughly.

I'm not overly fussed but I'd expect it to work for longer than 6 days. The battery is clearly faulty or capable of holding a changed.

Even when all the elective and heating is switched off it still won't work

The only thing that fixed mine was a new battery.
It's never failed to work since. (3 months now.)

My stop/start never worked properly from new. I mentioned it to the dealer once but they wanted to keep it in overnight to fully drain the battery and re-charge it. As it wasn't an issue for me I didn't bother to take it further. However, several months ago the battery "died" overnight and Jaguar Assist replaced it (under warranty). Ever since the s/s has worked fine so definitely think it is a battery issue.
