For quite some time I’ve been thinking about replacing the timing chain on my 2017 2.0D 163hp XE which currently has 94k km (approx. 60k miles).
A few months ago, I started hearing a brief rattle coming from the engine on cold startup. It looks that it has worsen and the rattle is much louder than before.
I’ve already got some quotes from both the dealership and an independent repair shop and I’m planning to book an appointment soon. However, I’ll need to make a roadtrip of around 600km soon and I won’t be able to replace the timing chain before that.
In your experience and opinion, how serious and concerning does the rattle in the below video is? Should I be okay to still drive the car for a month or so?
