Have just bought a 2015 XE R-Sport. Have tried to register to use the Jaguar Remote & Apps but previous owner has already registered an account and is therefore linked to the car. Is there an easy way to rectify this?

Your Jaguar dealer will need to de-register the previous owner before you can register the vehicle in your own account.

I have the same problem and a member of the Sales team has supposed to have looked at it this morning, but I've had no luck in trying to re-register, it just goes round in circles with the V.I.N., I put it in, it goes look, and erases it, and asks for it again. Another thing I will have to show my displeasure over.

Having the exact same issue. Picked my car up last week and tried to register for InControl over the weekend only to find out the previous owner was still registered for it. Emailed the customer support team who have said to take it into a Jaguar Approved retailer with proof of ownership and ID to get it sorted.

Couple of things I'm not sure about on this. Firstly I didn't buy it from a jaguar approved dealership but I wouldn't think this would cause an issue. Secondly I can't believe that I have to drive almost 20 miles to my nearest Jag dealership to get this done in person. Surely this could be done remotely by sending pics of relevant documents etc.

Has anyone had experience of getting this issue fixed. I was a bit excited to try out the remote start/climate control and was gutted when it didn't work right away!

Any help/guidance would be much appreciated.

Cheers guys!

if i remember correctly, it can take 2-3 days for the account to be cleared to re register a new owner, i read it somewhere when i sold my last XE.

I was told it might take a couple of hours (09.15). I haven't tried again since about 16.00 but it was still the same then. Doubt I'll be fit to try tomorrow, but will try again when I can.

Tried an hour ago and no different. Asks for the Vin (last 8) , goes off to look, then returns empty handed, with a 'start again'.

I also had this problem, and just popped into my localish dealer. The sales guy sorted it online whilst I had a quick coffee and then jumped into the car and pressed the overhead button for me. I could have done the latter but he seemed to want to. That was it, no waiting, it just worked on my remote app from then. Maybe I was lucky and the server gods were in a good mood.
It cost me a 30 mile round trip, but gave me another reason to drive the car :D

Like others have said I had this issue but a trip to the local dealer sorted this out for me! In truth all they had to do was take the old owner off so I could add myself to the then vacant car but the man was more than happy to do the button pressing in the car! Luckily enough it was free too, you never know with Jaguar!

Thanks for the info guys just a couple of questions if you don't mind. For those who went to the local jag dealer to get this sorted did you make an appointment or just turn up and enquire when you arrived? Also what is the one button press thing you mentioned? Cheers!

It's the assistance button in the roof marked with a spanner.
This is also used to connect the car to JLR when you are registering the car.
In most cases this is done by the dealer but there's a help guide here:

Hmmm. That's got me wondering if I should press the 'spanner' to see if it has actually connected. An on-screen instruction would be useful.

It sounds like the member of the sales team that dealt with you didn't really have a clue.
They should have done all this for you.
As far as I'm aware it comes as part of the 2 year warranty on approved used cars so shouldn't be an issue.
If the sequence isn't completed within the time limits as per my attachment then it's not going to work.

I've read what I think is the relevant bit of that instruction, still think I'll need to re-visit the Dealer. There is a minor problem Phil I didn't buy it from the local Dealer, they couldn't/wouldn't be bothered to locate a suitable vehicle for me, so it's not 'approved', and 3 years old O.O.W. basically I don't think they really care, certainly the sales team don't, so I need to go there and bang heads, which I don't really have time for ATM with a multitude of Doc and Hozzy visits and a bunch of Grand Monsters to ferry about. It'll sort eventually.

Then you won't have Incontrol if you are out of warranty and don't have the 2 year jobby from approved used.
There is a way of paying for it beyond warranty which some have done.

TBH Phil, the only bit I'm really bothered about is the Tracker, in case some tow-rag thinks he has better rights to it than I do.

Better off having an aftermarket tracker installed.
The Incontrol system only logs completed journeys so no good if they are having it away.
Some have a factory tracker but like incontrol that's finished with the end of the warranty etc.

Thanks for all the info I will definitely pop into a Jag dealer at the weekend and hopefully get it sorted. I have a year left on the warranty since it's a 17 plate so might as well take advantage of the service while I can. Also I don't really like the idea of the previous owner still having access so want that switched off. Cheers!

Just to add :
My car isn't Jag approved, rather bought from an independent with just over 2 yrs of the original manufacturers warranty to run.
However, the incontrol subscriptions expire 3 years after the date that the car was added to my account. So I have an extra year over what I expected.

In other good news, the dealer found a service plan against the car and transferred it before today's service, so that was 'free' :)

It was free of charge when I went to my local dealer! I phoned up before hand but it doesn't seem like there is a huge amount of uptake on renewals as you have to explain very clearly what you want doing!

As long as they clear the car from any registered owner it's easy to do with a nice animation to show you what to do! That being said the dealership pressed the buttons for me :)

From recollection it's the spanner that's held for 10 seconds until it flashes slowly?

For anyone who wondered I had to renew my subscription which I got through email, ÂŁ30 for remote premium!

Hi all I'm new to this forum and have been checking out all the great advice for the Jaguar XE. I've recently purchased a used 18 month old XE AWD in caesium blue and the intouch services appear still registered in the other owners name. I contacted customer services who advised me to setup an account and once I had my V5 to attend any dealer who would free of charge change over owner details on the system providing I show proof of ownership.

Today 5 days after my purchase I was then told by the dealer that they would carry this out, with the charge of ÂŁ60 for the pleasure. Any one else able to provide any advice as I think this is an excessive charge for something I was told would be free of charge!

Thx in advance

Hi and welcome. I think this should be a free service but someone with more knowledge will be along soon. I'm sure you'll love the xe as much as me 👍

Did you buy it from the dealer? If so, that's very naughty. When I traded my previous XE for my current one, my dealer was very fastidious and checked I had relinquished all of the In Control services, including clearing out any sat nav or phone memory. If they have supplied the car they too should have checked this thoroughly before handing over to you as the new owner. If this is the case that's very poor.

When I bought my previous XE it was an Approved Used car and on the morning I was due to collect, about an hour before handover I had an email from Jaguar In Control to let me know an account had been set up for me on the car in my name and providing instructions about how to log in. I believe this should be offered as part of the process.

I wonder how any failure to deregister previous owners leaves dealers regarding the new data protection rules?

Hi the car was bought from an independent dealer, although I contacted Jaguar customer service and had previously setup an account myself to find the message that it was still registered to the previous owner. I was informed all I had to do was take V5 and ID to my nearest dealer who would swap it over, customer service state they would only do it "in exceptional circumstance" despite me telling them I was being held to ransom for ÂŁ60 for the pleasure. I will be phoning them again as I believe the previous owner will still have direct access to my vehicle! Which I am not happy with.

Many thanks for the link to this information, it appears this is something that I can easily do myself! I will phone customer service tomorrow and they will need to deactivate the previous owner as they should not have any access to my vehicle system. If not I will most certainly escalate.
